A tearful Ana Ivanovic stalks off in despair after losing to French qualifier Julie Coin. It is more than 40 years since a number one seed has been bounced from the women’s U.S. Open in the second round but Coin ended that streak after stunning Ivanovic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. It was Coin’s first grand slam at the somewhat elderly age of 25.
Coin is the 188th ranked women’s tennis player in the world. The critical moment was 40-0 in the fifth game when she held on to hold serve. After winning that game she moved up 3-2 and then rattled off ten straight points to bury Ivanovic.

What to do when you lose your leading lady…you just invite her along anyway and she can grab the headlines by snatching a quick word with legendary Martina Navratilova.
